In 2020, the Illinois General Assembly enacted legislation creating a rebuttable presumption for front line and essential workers that contract COVID regarding such being contracted in the course of their employment. This presentation will outline this legislation and what that means for current employers of essential and front line workers—how the employer can help overcome the rebuttable presumption and assist with initial investigation for COVID-19 in the workplace claims
Amelia Schwingle is a Partner at Brady, Connolly & Masuda, P.C., specializing in the defense of workers’ compensation claims for employers, insurers and third party administrators throughout the State of Illinois. Amelia previously represented injured workers, so she is well rounded in assessing workers’ compensation strategy from both sides of the bar. Amelia’s experience includes arguing matters at the Arbitration level, the Commission, the Circuit Court, and the Illinois Appellate Court.
Amelia is currently a Member of the Board of Directors of the Workers’ Compensation Law Association and a Member of Brady Connolly & Masuda’s COVID-19 Task Force. Amelia obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, her law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, and is a resident of West Town.
